Each time I start to write an article on a certain type of fishing I catch my self wanting to say this is my favorite way to fish. I guess I enjoy every kind of fishing that I do. But I will have to say that if you got in my Ranger today and looked at all my tackle you would see a whole lot of different crank baits in my tackle section. I have several different types for very different presentations. In the spring time when the waters start to warm up you will always catch me looking for some shallow flats that are close to deep water. I love to throw red and chartreuse crank baits that imitate crawfish. I will always parallel the banks unless I am fishing a long point or hump that extends out into the lake. There are tons and tons of different crank baits on the market today so you want have any problem finding them.

The art to fishing them though is picking the right one that imitates the type of bait that the bass are feeding on at a particular time. The next thing that I have learned over the years is that you have to be bouncing the bottom and structure to trigger most bites. I also use a lot of spinning reels so that I can make very long casts. The long casts not only lets me cover a lot of water but most importantly lets my bait get down to the desired depth that that are designed to run. Some of my best finishes in tournaments have come from Crank baits.
